Emily Cane is General Counsel at H.W. Kaufman Group International, where she brings over 14 years of legal and strategic expertise in the global financial services and insurance sectors. A trusted advisor and accomplished senior in-house lawyer, Emily leads the company’s legal function with a focus on navigating complex (re)insurance transactions, corporate restructurings, M&A, and regulatory compliance across the UK, EMEA, and international markets.
Before joining Kaufman in April 2025, Emily spent more than 15 years at AIG, culminating in her role as Head of Legal for Global Specialty. In this capacity, she was a core member of the executive leadership team, providing business-focused legal guidance on strategic matters, managing a team of lawyers, and overseeing all legal aspects of (re)insurance transactions, commercial agreements, and claims activity. Her previous roles at AIG also included senior legal counsel positions supporting UK and EMEA commercial insurance, captive fronting, and reinsurance initiatives, as well as leading AIG’s UK and EMEA sanctions compliance.
Emily began her legal career at Norton Rose Fulbright, where she trained and practiced as an associate. She is widely recognized for her pragmatic, solutions-focused approach and her ability to build trust and influence across a broad range of stakeholders.
Emily was cited as a Rising Star by Legal Business and holds a CMI Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management. She is known for her ability to lead complex negotiations, foster collaborative relationships, and drive positive outcomes in highly regulated environments.
Emily earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Bristol. After completing her undergraduate studies, she attended law school in London, where she graduated with distinction in her examinations.
